There are many people who want to host exchange students, each does it for their own reason. We contemplated for a while before we made the decision. For us it was a huge responsibility and if we did it, it had to be all in or nothing, after all, it’s another teenager in the house. You also have to ask yourself, how would you want your child to treated by a family you have never met? They needed to be safe, feel loved, included, and free to live their best life.
This time last year we were blessed beyond belief when we got our first exchange student. We were all so excited to meet Viviane (Vivi to us) and hoped we could make her experience in Australia as memorable as possible. We certainly hit the jackpot when this gorgeous young German girl arrived. She just slid into our family like she was always meant to be there and soon became so much more than just an exchange student, she was a sister to our girls and a daughter to us. We have many memorable experiences together, traveled to new places, cooked meals together, had many late nights watching movies and early mornings watching the sunrise! She wanted to remember every minute of her experience here. I think she documented everything with her iphone!!! But being a photographer, I wanted to create portraits for her, yes we certainly captured candid images, but I wanted her to get her own personal experience being photographed, being made to feel special, and beautiful and capture images that are personal to her at this beautiful time of her life.
Happy 18th Birthday to this amazing young lady. It feels like forever since we celebrated your first Australian birthday. Thank you for all the beautiful memories, we love and miss you.
The world is yours to create anything you desire and you will always have your home away from home in Australia.
